textDetails to watch for
- Each space is replaced individually. Two spaces in a row produce an empty line between the items. Run COUNT LINES (which ignores blank lines) for the real item count, or REMOVE DUPES to collapse the blank lines into one.
- Tabs are not spaces. Text copied from a spreadsheet row is tab-separated — use TAB → NEWLINE for that.
- Commas are left alone. For
a, b, c, the commas stay on the end of each item; remove them first or use a find-and-replace. - NEWLINE → SPACE joins with exactly one space per line break, so blank lines become double spaces.
Common uses
- Turn a space-separated list into a column to paste into a spreadsheet, where each line becomes a row.
- Prepare input for line-based tools — one ID per line for a bulk lookup, one host per line for a script.
- Split a spreadsheet row (tab-separated) into a vertical list.
- Collapse a column back into one line, e.g. to build a space-separated argument list for a shell command.
