Sort Words — Alphabetize Words in Any Text
Paste a sentence, a paragraph or a space-separated list and click SORT WORDS A-Z to get every word in alphabetical order, one per line. SORT WORDS Z-A sorts in reverse. Sorting runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
How it works
- The text is split into words at any whitespace — spaces, tabs and line breaks.
- Words are sorted alphabetically using your browser's language-aware comparison.
- The result is written one word per line.

dateSorting rules worth knowing
- Case is handled naturally. The comparison is locale-aware, so
apple,Bananaandcherrysort as a person would expect, rather than putting every capitalised word first as a plain byte sort does. - Accented letters sort next to their base letter —
écolesorts with the e's, not after z. - Numbers are compared as text, character by character, so
10sorts before9. Pad numbers with leading zeros (09,10) if you need numeric order. - Punctuation stays attached.
cherry, andcherryare different words; remove commas first if the text is a comma-separated list. - Duplicates are kept. Use REMOVE DUPES afterwards for a list of unique words.
Common uses
- Alphabetize a tag or keyword list pasted from a CMS or spreadsheet.
- Build a vocabulary list from a paragraph: sort, then remove duplicates.
- Normalise lists for comparison — sort two lists the same way, then compare them with Text Diff.
- Tidy CSS classes or flags you collected from several places.
Sorting whole lines instead?
If each line is an item that contains spaces — names, addresses, sentences — use SORT A-Z on the same page, or the Sort Lines tool. That keeps each line intact instead of splitting it into words.
